Blues vs Middlesbrough: Preview

Blues face Middlesbrough tomorrow, after having been knocked out of the FA Cup by West Ham it’s business as usual and better still there’s some positive team news, Isaac Vassell is available for selection for the first time in 14 Months, Jota returns to the squad having been rested against West Ham and Pedersen will also make his return.

Middlesbrough currently sit 5th in the table, four points ahead of Blues, and are certainly promotion contenders this year so will be hoping to come away with all three points and close the gap between them and the teams above. It seems to me many teams continue to underestimate Blues this season so I think Boro will come thinking they can get all three points, but Blues have demonstrated that it’s not that easy this season, especially at St Andrews.

Blues will be looking to return to winning ways having not secured victory in their last three fixtures, while Boro have three wins in their last five fixtures in all competitions including a 5-0 victory in the FA Cup so it’s not going to be an easy game but I can see Blues getting a result. Boro have injury concerns at the back and I feel this could work in Blues favour as Daniel Ayala, Ryan Shotton and Aden Flint are all out.

I can see Blues nicking a 1-0 here ending a run of three previous meetings without a victory, it’s been their solid defence in the past that Blues have really struggled with so now’s our chance in my opinion. Any team can be beaten and we’re going into a run where we need to believe that but importantly we need to take our chances.

The man in the middle of this one is Graham Scott who has taken charge of 14 games so far this season. He’s shown a total of 35 yellow cards and two reds or the equivalent of 2.5 cards a game. So I think there will be a low number of cards in this fixture.
