Wiley Talks about Bugzy Malone

Wiley went on Instagram Live the other day to do a Q&A Session and one of the points raised was to do with top MC’s in the game, Wiley listed Stormzy and Skepta as the two biggest in the scene currently before he then went on to talk about the unique situation in Manchester. Wiley really couldn’t understand how one man could dominate a city in the way Bugzy Malone has.

I listened to the YouTube video on the basis that it said “Wiley sends for Bugzy” but it wasn’t a send in particular, more simply Wiley’s view on the city. Bugzy Malone does seem to have an unprecedented level of control over the city, it’s almost as though no one else in Manchester is trying. Bugzy blew up through the clashes with Chip, something Wiley touches on, but I think Wiley does have a point.

Grime is irrefutably of London origins, it’s the birth child of Wiley and the amount of talent within the city is on such a grand scale it’s difficult to tie down one artist in London who is the undisputed king of the scene. Birmingham also has a huge variety of artists pushing the scene forward, so much so it can be difficult again to list artists at the top of the scene in Brum. Manchester has one name that really stands out and it’s then difficult to name others.

I’ve spoken to a few people over the years and one positive is that the whole of Manchester does seem to back Bugzy, whether that’s because there’s little else to support or whether such support of Bugzy has led to there being little else to support remains to be seen. I do think though, once the Godfather has spoken you have to listen, he’s passed his comment on Manchester and he will be hoping that there is more to come out of the city to help grow his sound in essence.

I think one thing is clear, Bugzy is King of the North, the EP will be dropping 14th July and is currently available to pre-order. The full Q&A is below;
